John S. Lopes

John S. Lopes , 86, of Raynham, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center, in Brockton. He was the husband of the late Elaine K. (Gay) Lopes, who passed away on September 16, 2021.

Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Francisco P. and Elisabeth (DeMello) Lopes.

After graduating from Durfee High School in Fall River, he served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956 during the Korean War.

John worked as a Correctional Officer for 30 years with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections at MCI-Bridgewater. He was an avid Racing Pigeon fancier and was known worldwide with friends across the globe. He and his late wife Elaine were the owners of the former Hillcrest Country Club in Fall River.

He leaves his son, John S. Lopes, of Raynham, and his wife, Elizabeth Rocha, of Taunton; a daughter, Kathryn Weiby, of Raynham; one granddaughter Nicole Weiby, of Raynham; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Lopes was the brother of the late Frank P. Lopes, Jr., and his wife, Mary, formerly of Swansea, and William Lopes, formerly of Fall River.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend John’s committal service and interment with military honors on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 10:30 am, in Saint Joseph Cemetery, 475 E. Britannia Street, Taunton (Saint Catherine Section)

Visiting hours will be privately held.
