Elaine K. Lopes (Gay) age 83, of Raynham, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Signature Healthcare-Brockton Hospital. She was the wife of John S. Lopes.
Born in Taunton, she was a daughter of the late Frank A. and Katherine (Kmiec) Gay.
She was a graduate of Taunton High School and attained her RN from the nursing program at the Union Hospital in Fall River, MA. Elaine was also a graduate of Massachusetts College of Pharmacy achieving a Bachelor of Science Degree. She worked as the Director of Nurses at Taunton State Hospital for many years before retiring.
Mrs. Lopes was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church and sang in the choir as well as teaching CCD classes. She participated in helping with the annual Polish Picnic for many years. Elaine and her husband John owned the former Hillcrest Country Club in Fall River, MA. She also enjoyed cooking and making arts & crafts.
Besides her husband, she leaves her son, John S. Lopes of Raynham, and his wife, Elizabeth Rocha-Lopes, of Taunton; a daughter, Kathryn Weiby, of Raynham; one granddaughter, Nicole Weiby; a brother, Frank A. Gay; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Elaine’s visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, from 9:15 am to 10:15am, in the Sowiecki-Snyder Home for Funerals, 69 West Britannia Street, Taunton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, at Holy Rosary Church, 80 Bay Street, Taunton
(Guests are kindly asked to meet directly at Holy Rosary Church at the conclusion of Elaine’s visitation, giving the family some private time before her funeral mass)
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
