Edith Velit Dietrich

September 20, 1939 — June 2, 2024

Edith Velit Dietrich, age 84, of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024, accompanied by her daughters, Elsa and Edith Carolina, and granddaughter, Natalia by her side.

Born in Lima, Peru, she was the daughter of the late Elsa Dietrich.

Edith will always be remembered for her unwavering strength and resilience in the face of life's adversities. Despite losing her mother at a young age and encountering numerous challenges along her path, she never allowed sorrow to dim the light within her. Her spirit remained unbreakable, always finding reasons to smile and radiate joy to those she held dear.

A social butterfly, Edith possessed the extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life even if she could not speak their language. She found joy in simple pleasures like walking, going to the store, and dancing - activities that showcased her independence and zest for life. Edith loved all animals, especially her beloved dog Luna. She was a source of love and support to her daughter Edith Carolina during the end of her pregnancy with her granddaughter, Natalia. Miss Velit took an active and loving role in raising Natalia until the very last day before she passed away. She was instrumental in ensuring that Natalia was properly identified at the hospital, a memory that is held dear to Natalia’s heart. Her tribute to her grandmother is to oversee Edith’s final journey being carried out with attention to detail through the entire funeral planning process. Elsa carries with her the indelible strength and resilience taught by her mother. These teachings and life lessons have empowered her to stand firm against life’s adversities, and never allow obstacles to dim her spirit. Edith and her daughter Edith Carolina shared an unbreakable bond between each other. She will always carry her powerful advice forever. They were lifelong best friends, and she took care of Edith Carolina up until her very last days as if she was still her little baby.

One of the fondest memories shared by many is of Edith cooking her famous dish - pure de espinaca.

She is survived by her daughters Elsa Munro and Edith Carolina Vargas both of Bridgewater; her brother Carlos Tobar; a sister Margot Tobar; grandchildren Mara, Fati, Natalia, and Justin; and great-grandchildren Mia, Alexa, Emma, and Leo. Edith was the sister of the late Gabriel and Bertha Tobar.

In accordance with her wishes, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
