Arthur J. Nigro Jr., age 87 of Plainville, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Syracuse, New York, he was the son of the late Arthur J. Nigro and Frances E. (Donnelly) Willey.

Arthur was dedicated to his country and served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957. After returning from military service, he pursued his education and graduated from Newbury Junior College with an associate degree in management. He also attended the Peterson School of Steam Engineering. His career spanned several fields, showcasing his versatility and skills. He was a union member, worked for General Dynamics at the Fore River Shipyard, and was a dedicated employee for 15 years at Southern California Edison’s nuclear power plant. For the last 11 years of his life, Arthur served as the recycling center attendant for the Town of Plainville where he was a local fixture in the community.

Known for his giving nature and big heart, Arthur was a man who never met a stranger. Those who knew him will remember his knack for storytelling. Arthur always fought for the "little guy". He was a true jack of all trades, skilled in many areas and always willing to lend a helping hand.

He was a talented bowler, golfer and had a passion for fly fishing and archery. His creative talents extended to gardening and charcoal drawing, both of which provided him with joy and fulfillment. Arthur shared his stunning peonies with his co-workers at the Plainville Town Hall every spring.

Arthur is survived by his children, Kathy Nigro Qum of Quincy, Arthur S. Nigro of Windsor Locks, CT, Joanne Campbell of Hull, Paul Nigro of Plymouth, Steven Nigro of Hull, Ann Marie Sileo of Waxhaw, NC, Lauren Nigro and Nina Nigrow both of Los Angeles, CA; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Larry Willey and Jerry Nigro.

A celebration of Arthur's life will be held at a date and time to be determined.
